Had some free time last night and managed to stitch another image from my trip to the South West of Western Australia recently .

This shot was taken at sunrise in Twilite Cove at Esperance , got some really intense colors at the sunrise that morning but they didn’t hang around for long . Found it quite difficult shooting Twilite Cove that morning just with the position of the sunrise to the cove , Also found it hard to hold back the sky with my cheap cokin filters had stacked 2 on and didn’t want to stack any more due to color cast problems , wont be having that problem as my Lees filters arrived a few weeks back now just waiting on my Stinghray filters to arrive . The red channel was also easy to blow out shooting under these conditions .

Was origningally a Ten image stitch but croped it down to about 8 images . Would love to be back down in Esperance the coast line is amazing , hopefully will be able to head back down for a few days before the end of the year .

Sorry been a bit quite on the blogs for the last few weeks been pretty sick with the cold and busy at work .

Plus I have also had computer troubles ,  motherboard has gone on my current PC , Guess its time for a new machine then one then and have just the one in mind , should be able to stitch and processes images in no time (intel 3.86 GHZ cpu , NVIDIA 1792MB GeForce graphics card , 12 gigs of DDR3 ram to name a few parts :) ) .

Did manage to stitch and edit a shot tonight though on my laptop though . This shot was taken durring my visit to the Stirling Ranges this year . Was an 8 image stitch of Bluff Knoll at Sunrise . Really like the way the sunrise lights the mountain ranges hopefully head back out to the ranges to get some more photos soon .

Geraldton

•June 26, 2009 • 12 Comments

I recently got back from a long weekend trip up to Geraldton in WA to see family last weekend . While I was up there took the opportunity to take some photos up there . From what I heard the weather in Perth was shocking that weekend for photography , 500km away from Perth it was fairly nice and made for some great light for photos .

Stayed with my Grand parents at there place on the new Geraldton Marina , It had been a while since I was last up there and the whole front of Geraldton is in the process of some much need redevelopment .

Got a few shots while I was up their the shot below is of Geraldtons new Marinia and Museam .

While I was down there I also took the opportunity to take some photographs of the HMAS Sydney War Memorial . For those of you that don’t know about it HMAS Sydney was lost with all hands battle ,  off the Geraldton coast in November 1945 .

The centre of the memorial is a dome, 12 metres across, raised on pillars 3 metres tall. It is seafaring tradition that the souls of lost sailors are embodied in seagulls. The dome consists of 645 stylized stainless steel seagulls, representing the 645 souls lost .

A wall of remembrance names of those lost loosely envelops the dome. Close by is a soaring stele of the bow of HMAS Sydney.

Most evocative of all is the bronze woman in 1940s dress,  gazing to the distant horizon .

Water Exposures

white-boarderHeaded down to the beach this morning and was hoping for nice cloud cover and great light after I have missed it all over the last few weeks .

Unfortantly there was not a cloud to be seen and just got a pastel sky , so just chucked on the 17 -40 mm lens and played around with some exposures on the water .

Cape Le Grand National Park in the South West of Western Australia would have to be a photographers dream . It has some amazing beachs and coves scatered around the place and also some really interesting rock formations including French mans Peak . Unfortantly while I was down there the light and clouds werent playing nice and didnt get a chance to photograph French Man Peack as I was intending to . This was the only piont of view shot i got of French Man Peack from the top of one of the Coves in the National Park at Sunrise , I guess there all ways next time :)

Was a 12 image stitch with the 5 D mark II the detail and size were amazing .

Been feeling better from the flu so found some time to stitch another photo together from my trip down the South West of Western Australia . Most people who live in WA will know this spot . Its the Natural Bridge in Albany , a huge granite rock face which the ocean has carved out a bridge over many years . Pretty dangerous place to photography after sunset with the massive waves crashing against the rocks . Defiantly would like to revisit Albany this year have found some other locations around Albany I would like to photograph .

Was another 8 image stitch taken on the 5D MKII . Hopefully have a few more shots posted this week .

Sorry been a bit quite this last week been pretty sick with the cold (hope its not swine flu lol ) .

Did manage to go through some more images from my recent trip down the South West of Western Australia last night .

Took a lot of day shots also while I was down there as my portfolio was lacking a bit of the bright blue sky with white sandy beach shots , and just love the color of the water at Esperance it is so blue .
A 8 image stitch of a Beach at Esperance cant remember which beach as shot so many that  .

Stirling Ranges

The Stirling Ranges was our first stop during my trip of the South West .

Have to say I was excited about photographing this location due to the amazing photographs I have seen of it and photographing some thing different for my portfolio besides seascape and the idea of not having sea spray and sand end up all over my gear would be a nice change . When I got there I found out that the sea spray and beach sand was replaced by red dust which got every where and made changing lens really difficult and the corrigation over the roads which was a real nightmare to drive on or be a passenger in .

Still I would have to say the Stirling ranges would be up there on one of my favourite places to photograph in WA , there are so many different angles and locations to photograph it from . Bluff Knoll was defiantly the highlight of the Stirling ranges this thing was massive (For WA standards of Mountains lol ) , Did find some other nice spot along the ranges as well that I’m defiantly keen to rephotograph when there is better light .

This was an 8 images stitch taken at sunrise on day of Bluff Knoll , have got a lot more images of these ranges but this was the first image I have had a chance to stitch together .

South West Coast Line

The South West Coast line has some amazing landscape , from rugged rocky waved crashed shores to peace full bays ( I think Perth got jibbed when it comes to coast line to photograph , when they settled Perth they were deffinatly were not thinking of use landscape photographers ) .  Could spend a whole year down South photographing ,  but for the short time I was down there I did make a good efferot to take as many photos as possible  .

This is the first image I have had a chance to look at since getting back to Perth , Was a 3 image stitch taken on the 5D MKii with the 24-70mm lens at 50mm . Will hopefully have more time to sort through some more images over the next few weeks .

While I was down there I did find some nice location I will be deffinatly revisiting some time this year , for now I still have to go through the rest of the images from the trip which should keep me busy hopefully till the end of the year

Sydney Opera House

Still going through my images from my Sydney trip this year .

Went down to the Sydney Opera House a couple of times as it was close to where we were staying in the CBD and  The Sydney skyline and Opera House would have to be one of my favourite skylines to photography besides the Perth skyline  .  Would have to be one of my favourite cities in Australia as well  , If i did’nt live in Perth could easly live in either Sydney or the Gold Coast .

The light wasn’t great while I was over there  so I tried some long exposures at night time . Did get a lot of people (mainly tourists ) come up to me while I was photographing the Opera House either they were intrigued in why I was panning up or wanted to check out the 5D MKII ,  also got a lot of comments from teenagers walking past say stuff like the ” bombest camera “ lol

While I was over there probally took about 24 gigs worth of images , The light wasn’t great for the whole trip but still got a few images which I’m saving for the website launch . Did manage to scope out a few locations to return to next time I’m over that side of the country .

This was a 3 image vertical stitch .
